As of November 18, 2025 approximately 22% (2324 square miles) of Massachusetts is under drought conditions and 22% (2385 square miles) is abnormally dry. Mandatory water restrictions due to drought, a need to replace outdated septic systems to protect water quality from nitrogen and bacteria, and potential lead contamination from older home plumbing. The town is addressing these by implementing water conservation measures, building a new sewer system, and advising residents on how to check for and offer discounted rain barrels to residents.
